Silas

Dom gave his first report to my father on Monday night, standing in my kitchen with his phone on speaker, while I ate cereal and pretended not to listen.

"South ridge clear. Fire road clear. Ezra's people found nothing new. Tessa's fine. Wren's fine. Silas walked her to class, sat with her in the library, and took her home." A pause. "Nothing to report, Alpha."

"Good," my father said, and hung up.

Dom put his phone in his pocket and looked at me.

"Nothing to report," he repeated.

I kept eating my cereal.

"You were in that library for two hours," Dom said. "Across the table from her. Half the third floor saw you. Theo says she had a list."

"She had questions about hockey."

"Two pages of questions about hockey."

"It's a complicated sport."

Dom stared at me for a long moment. Then he shook his head a
