Kelsey POV
The rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers was the only sound inside the SUV as Garrison navigated the empty streets. The downpour had started the second we walked out of the police precinct.
I kept my hands folded tightly in my lap, my nails biting into my palms to ground myself in the physical pain.
Liam was out there. Somewhere in that freezing dark.
I glanced sideways at Garrison. The dashboard lights cast sharp, hollow shadows across the hard planes of his face. His knuckles were stark white around the leather steering wheel, his jaw locked so tightly I could almost hear his teeth grinding together.
“You’re driving too fast,” I murmured, finally breaking the heavy quiet in the cabin.
“We’re losing time,” he replied, his eyes never leaving the slick asphalt.
“Garrison.” I shifted in my seat, turning my body toward him so he could feel the weight of my stare. “You were going to leave me behind at the station.”
