Chapter 27

I stood before my fellow agents with a heavy heart, knowing that what I was about to say would shake the foundations of our trust in one another. “My fellow agents, I’m sure you’re all aware that our mission yesterday was a failure. We were unable to apprehend Talisca, and several of our own were injured in the process. But what you don’t know is that we had a mole within our ranks.”

A murmur went through the room, and I raised my hand for silence. “Yes, a mole. Someone within the FBI who tipped off Talisca and allowed him to escape. I have reason to believe that this person is Jax.”

Gasps and murmurs broke out again, and I took a deep breath before continuing. “I know this may be hard to hear, but I have evidence to back up my suspicions. I bugged Jax’s phone and overheard a conversation in which he talked about a payment he received for ‘a job well done.’ I believe this payment was from Talisca.”
