Elera hastily wrapped a towel around her trembling body, her mind reeling from the warning she had just received. The water droplets on her skin mingled with the cold sweat that now coated her forehead. She had barely hung up the call with Alex, warning her about Lorenzo’s imminent threat, when a strange noise had pierced the stillness of her apartment.
With her senses heightened and adrenaline coursing through her veins, Elera’s heart raced as she strained her ears, trying to discern the source of the sound. Was it just her imagination playing tricks on her? Or was there a real danger lurking in the shadows?
Fear gripped her tightly, but she knew she couldn’t afford to succumb to panic. With cautious steps, she tiptoed across the tiled bathroom floor, her towel clenched tightly around her as she reached for the concealed compartment where she had stashed her firearm.
