Chapter 69. The Decision She Made Alone
On Thursday, Diana called the wedding coordinator during her lunch break.
She had spent all week looking at the figures. By then, the problem seemed simple: remove a few things, reduce the total, and stop feeling sick every time someone said their wedding was going to be beautiful.
She asked to release the musicians' tentative booking.
The coordinator hesitated.
“Both of them?”
“We can use recorded music.”
“The pianist has another inquiry for that date. If I release it, I may not be able to get it back.”
Diana looked at the amount beside the names.
“I understand.”
She also asked for a revised menu, though she did not approve it. The coordinator promised to send the options to both of them.
When the call ended, Diana felt relief.
It lasted until she imagined telling Gabriel.
⁂
He was already home when she arrived.
The revised email was open on his laptop. He looked up as she put down her bag.
