Chapter 86. Breakfast With Her Husband

Diana woke with Gabriel's hand resting on her hip.

For several seconds, she kept her eyes closed. There was something she wanted to remember before the day began: the weight of his arm, the warmth along her back, the strange pleasure of knowing that yesterday had actually happened.

Then she turned carefully beneath his hand.

He was awake.

“How long have you been looking at me?”

“Long enough to know you were pretending.”

“I was enjoying being asleep.”

“A complicated distinction.”

Diana smiled and touched his mouth. He kissed her fingertips before catching her hand and bringing it against his chest.

“Good morning,” he said.

She liked that he didn't add wife immediately. The word was lovely, but this was lovely too: the man she knew, in the room they already shared, with his hair flattened on one side.
