Chloe’s POV
Drake came that night without warning.
I knew he was there before I saw him. The house changed when he arrived. The guards shifted positions. Doors closed softly. The air felt tighter, heavier, like it always did when he walked in.
I was in the sitting room when he entered. His jacket was still on. His tie was loose. His face was hard in a way that made my chest ache before he even spoke.
“Why,” he said, “was your sister allowed inside this house.”
I stood up slowly. “You already know why.”
“You had no right,” he snapped. “No right at all.”
“She is my sister,” I said. “She is not a stranger.”
“She is a risk,” he said sharply. “And you let her walk straight through the gate.”
“She showed up unannounced,” I replied. “What was I supposed to do. Let your guards push her away like a criminal.”
