Walking was supposed to be simple. An easy, normal activity. Yet somehow, in this pack, even walking had become a full-blown, pack-wide event.

I stepped outside the Alpha’s house, stretching my arms with a deep inhale of fresh morning air. The sun was gentle, casting a warm glow over the grounds. It was the perfect day for a peaceful walk.

Or at least, it should have been.

The moment I took my first step, Hans was at my side, eyes sharp with the kind of vigilance reserved for high-stakes battles. “Careful,” he said.

I sighed. “Hans, I am literally walking. On flat ground.”

“That’s how it starts,” he muttered.
