I closed my eyes and let the mind link open, and almost immediately, I heard my mother’s familiar sulky tone echo in my mind.
‘JHOANNA CARTER-MARTIN! Why didn’t you call when you went into labor?’ My mother’s voice grumbled, warm yet teasing. (Yes, this is her grumbling.) ‘I was waiting for your dramatic entrance, and now I’m left sulking like a scorned pup!’
I couldn’t help but smile despite the pain and current mood swings. ‘Mom, you know I wanted Hans by my side. I couldn’t bear to share this moment without him.’
Almost instantly, my brother Sammy’s mischievous laughter joined in. ‘Oh, come on, Jho! I’m thrilled it’s a boy! Although, I suppose a girl would be cute too. You always know how to make us worry or sulk. It is always between these two.’
