Johanis’ POV

Lily had the look.

The same wide-eyed, determined expression she wore whenever she had an idea—an idea that, without fail, would lead to absolute chaos. I knew this because I had been roped into many of her “brilliant plans” before.

I just couldn’t say no to my precious little sister.

This time, her grand scheme involved baking a cake for Papa’s birthday.

“Johaaa, we have to make it special,” Lily insisted, tugging at my sleeve as we stood in the kitchen. “It has to be the bestest cake ever!”

I eyed the ingredients spread out before us—flour, eggs, sugar, milk—stuff I had seen Mama use before but never actually used myself. “But Lily, we don’t know how to make a cake.”

She gasped, affronted. “Mama makes it a
