He toyed with the silence, keeping her on edge with trembling knees and icy feet, enjoying her unraveling gaze.
His coldness wasn't anything anyone wanted to cross, especially Maya Alfredo, whose warm innocence was about to be quenched by a monster who wouldn't give a damn if she died as long as she obeyed him.
He sighed, walking to the light switch and touching it. He looked at her, his hair falling over his face, that innocent look he kept hidden spreading over his countenance. "Why don't we answer this question in the dark, Maya?"
She was shaking her head, and her hands were reaching toward him when the switch clicked, letting darkness seep in and rendering her blind and at his mercy. Her body shook as she stood in the dark.
"I ask the questions."
She heard him say while she strained her eyes, hoping to make out his outline.
"Where were you when you got kidnapped?" Judging from his voice, he was still at the switch.
