Chapter 100
“If she wakes up tomorrow and decides she doesn’t want me anymore, I’ll let her walk away.” Cain said, almost lying to himself there because he knew he loved Liana too much to let her go, but he still wanted to make a point to Parley that Liana been in his life was her choice.
The room became still. Even Steve looked at Cain differently after that. Parley’s eyes stayed locked on him.
Cain leaned forward slightly now, “But if anybody tries to force her into a life she doesn’t want… they’ll answer to me first. I’ve seen firsthand where that leaves her.”
Steve laughed humorlessly. “You threatening him now?”
Cain did not even look at him. “No. I’m telling him exactly what kind of man I am.”
Parley studied Cain quietly while he spoke. No shaking or trembling hands. No nervousness. No fake bravado either. Just calmness he admired. But yet, somehow, that calmness irritated him more than fear would have.
He smiled faintly. “You speak well.”
