Of course, Riley being Riley, it didn’t take him long to work out what was happening in those moments and bless his heart, he would always take the time to pull me aside and tell me all the reasons why I am her mother, blood or not and I love him for that. At first, I never let his words sink in because the reality was too strong but as time went on I slowly let them in and now when I have those bittersweet moments I hear his words in my head and I quickly let them take over.

Nina’s giggling drags my mind back to the present and I shake my head laughing at them as I walk past them and head downstairs and into the kitchen. “Mam mam mam.” I feel pulling on my pants and look down to find my little boy Jacob raising his hands for me to pick him up and as always my heart melts.

“Good morning, handsome man.” I pick him up and start placing kisses all over his little face making him giggle. Jacob’s almost 19 months old and an absolute dream. “Mam mam mam.
