Chapter 54
She got up stiffly from the bed. The future stretched out in front of her, and she knew that whatever it held, she could no longer remain married to Collins. Tonight they had overstepped the polite limits they had set for themselves this last year, and there could only be one end to this now. She wondered how it would affect their son too and tried to put it out of her mind.
She was woken the next morning by a tray of tea being placed on her bedside table, and looked up to see, not the maid as she had expected, but Collins. And he was already dressed and ready for his office.
'You overslept,' he told her abruptly. 'It's almost nine o'clock.'
She sat up against the pillows, ‘Oh…’
“Don't worry. I already took care of Jake. The driver took him to school,’ he added, knowing she was about to start worrying about their son.
