“I’ve heard enough,” Ezekiel said again, and the scouts became silent.
Ezekiel sat back on the couch, feigning calm on the outside, but his muscles coiled on the inside and he struggled to keep his breathing even.
“You may leave,” he said smoothly, dismissing them with a flick of his hand.
They bowed, relief flooding their faces, and hurried out.
The doors closed shut, and the chamber was left in silence.
