“Are you even listening to yourself?” My patience snaps like a brittle twig as I rise abruptly from my seat, confronting my mother head-on. “What kind of twisted logic is this, Mom? Simply because a man is gay, does that automatically make him a predator? A monster? It’s abhorrent! It’s downright criminal to even entertain such thoughts!”
My mother attempts to interject, but I steamroll over her, my anger pulsating through every word.
“You can judge me all you want, Harin, but at the end of the day, I was just a mother trying to protect her children. I didn’t act out of malice, but out of a sense of duty. Duty to myself, to you, to our family.”
“No, you were just a bitter woman unable to accept being replaced by a man. That’s all,” I spit out, feeling the tremors of indignation coursing through my body. It’s time she faced the truth; after all, I’ve endured a lifetime of lies because of her.
