I couldn’t say I had a good night’s sleep.

I felt a bit tired as I woke up at six in the morning with the nurses who came to change my dressings and remove the catheter that was in me, giving me medications and reminding me that I should drink plenty of water, after all, I would only be discharged when the doctor was sure that my whole body was okay, and that included my intestines as well.

I got up shortly after that. The woman helped me, but Jaewon’s hands held me with unparalleled certainty. He always listened to the care instructions I should take, and the minute I mentioned I wanted to go to the bathroom because I felt dirty and needed a bath.

“Do you want me to help you?” the nurse asked, but I looked at my fiancé, eager to deny it, but also feeling embarrassed.

“Can I give him a bath?” he asked in a gentle tone. “I’ve heard all the instructions, and we’re both more intimate. I think he’ll feel better with some privacy.”
