Aria’s POV

Jade sighed, “Her plan… was me.”

A cold shiver rolled down my arms at her ominous tone. “What do you mean?”

“She didn’t just want me gone because I was a threat. She kept me because I wasn’t a mistake she wanted to erase. I was her contingency plan.” Her voice was filled with bitterness now. “If she ever died, she would have a way to come back. She made me her anchor.”

My voice caught at that thought. I blinked in shock. “You mean—”

Jade said flatly, like she was forcing herself to say it out loud. “Agnes’s plan was to use me as her bridge. Her way back into the world if she ever died. She made me her… vessel, like a backup body.”

My stomach twisted. “So, she was going to—”

“Possess me,” Jade finished for me.
