I glanced at the clock on my computer: 6:35 PM. The office had emptied out an hour ago, but I was still finalizing the construction timeline for the project. My phone buzzed with a text from Alexander.

Alexander: My office. Now.

My stomach fluttered. That commanding tone, even in text form, did things to me I couldn’t explain. I saved my work, smoothed my skirt, and headed to his office.

I knocked once before entering. Alexander was standing by the window, his broad shoulders outlined against the New York skyline. He turned, his eyes immediately darkening as they swept over me.

“Ms. Harper,” he said, voice low. “Working late again?”

“Just finishing the timeline for the project, Mr. Knight.” I closed the door behind me, feeling that familiar tension crackling between us.

He crossed the room in three long strides. “Always so dedicated.” His fingers brushed my cheek, trailing down to my collarbone. “I have a proposi
