I was certain those were called rival companies but what do I know?
“I encountered an issue about twenty years ago.” He said and released a sigh. It was as if the mere memory of whatever he had to say was too much for him to bear. He looked down at his feet and refused to make eye contact with me. What issue did he run into that the mere memory of it scared him this much?
“I lost everything I owned after my ex wife left me. I gambled it all away after she broke my heart and I…I lost control.” He said sadly. I never knew he had an ex wife. Hell I had no idea the man had ever been married.
“You're too young to remember but she used to come visit you. She was your favorite aunt back then. You'd always yell at aunt Carla whenever you saw her.” He chuckled at his last words, raised his eyes to meet mine and smiled. I smiled back at him, I wanted the smile to be a smile of reassurance but I just wanted to hear this story. I am a bad person.
