It was a simple question, but she took her time in answering it. Collin watched the woman’s facial expressions, and he studied them. He waited patiently until she would own up to her feelings, but no words came out of her mouth. She remained silent for a moment as if she weighed her decision carefully.

“Let me ask you again, Aubrey. Are you in love with me right now?”

Aubrey swallowed the lumps in her throat, and then she looked at Collin. He was waiting for her response, but she couldn’t disclose everything to him. She was scared! “I’m not sure. Anyway, can you help me pick some flowers from the garden? I need to replace the ones I used in the vases,” she said.

Collin was devastated and aghast at the same time when she suggested picking flowers instead of answering his inquiry. “Are you serious right now, Aubrey? This is not the time to pick flowers for your flower vases!”
