“Why?” she asked as his hands were suspended in mid-air close to her face.
“You are already so pretty, I don’t think anyone would be able to take their eyes off you. If you put on any more makeup, you would be too pretty—you might have to be a god.”
Jessica cleared her throat. She stared at herself in the mirror, and she wondered how she was not redder than she looked. No one had ever said something like that to her before.
“I want to be prettier,” she replied and picked up her powder case on the table.
“I guess I will have to keep you at home all day then,” he replied, standing up and starting to walk slowly toward her.
“You can’t do that,” she told him and continued to pat her face with the powder puff.
“Do not make me do that,” he said, going down on his knee
