The door opened, and Xavier walked in. His eyes immediately fell on Jessica, and he winked at her. Dawson watched him closely and then cleared his throat.

“Xavier, I am so glad you are here now,” Dawson said.

“You are glad I am here?” Xavier asked. “I thought you liked seeing Jessica more than you like seeing me?” he asked.

“I am always happy to see you. Seeing you gives me great joy, but seeing you today gives me even greater joy.”

Xavier tried to wrap his mind around what his grandfather was driving at, but he could not. He glanced at Jessica, hoping her expression might give something away, but her face was blank.

“I heard the news,” Dawson said when nobody spoke again.

“What news?” Xavier asked.

“About you and Jessica,” he replied.
