Xavier went upstairs to check on Jessica, and she was already awake, sitting upright on the bed and looking around. He rushed to her side and gently touched her hair.

“How do you feel?” he asked, and she looked up at him, blinking multiple times.

“I think I do feel better,” she said.

He removed his hand from her head and walked to where her leg rested. He touched it as if he were afraid it would wake a giant monster if he were not careful.

“How does this feel?” he asked, gently pressing her ankle.

She tried to hide the pain she felt by disguising it with a yawn. “That hurt, didn’t it?” he asked, and she nodded.

“I told you we should not leave the hospital until you felt better, but you assured me you were already improving. What are we going to do about this sprain?” h
