Chapter 38

Hearing Xavier’s morning voice made Jessica weak in the knees. She placed her hands on the sink in front of her to keep from falling. If she fell again, Xavier would make a bigger issue of it than yesterday. He put on a tough front, but it was obvious he was a kind man at heart.

“What are you doing?” he asked again, running a hand through his hair to fix it.

“I want to visit Dawson, so I wanted to freshen up,” Jessica responded, turning to face the mirror. If she kept looking at him, she might end up staring all day.
