Bianca, however, felt a flicker of confusion. She shot him a sideways glare and whispered, “Didn’t you say you wanted to pick the date? Why let my mom decide?”

Leaning closer, his voice brushed her ear like a soft breeze. “I just want to keep your mom happy,” he murmured with a grin.

In that instant, Bianca understood. Dave wasn’t only charming, he was careful, playing a silent game of diplomacy.

If Madison stayed in good spirits, maybe Leonel and Reese still had a chance. If not, her cold silence and refusal to hear Leonel out would remain a wall none of them could break.

While Dave and Bianca whispered to each other, Leonel looked as though the weight of the world was crushing him.

“Mom,” he burst out, frustration in his voice. “You only talk to Dave and act like I don’t exist. What do you want from me?”
