I was left to debate on whether or not I was going to end up fighting him.
It was going to be a bad option for me to do so, and knowing the situation of my daughter, I also knew that putting her at that risk was something that I did not want to do. She did not deserve it.
The infirmary felt quieter than usual.
Though I knew that everyone was talking outside, all their voices were muffled out. I just felt like I was alone. I just felt like everything had turned against me in a way that I knew I couldn’t just easily fight back.
I wished that I could, but I knew that I couldn’t.
The air felt suffocating and thick pressing on me. But I stayed quiet as I held my ground, as I looked down at my girl.
I held Isla close, her tiny body tucked against mine, her warmth the only comfort I had left. She slept soundly, her little hands curled into fists against my skin, unaware of what was about to happen.
I, however, was all too aware.
