I knocked gently on the infirmary door before pushing it open. I knew that I shouldn’t have come, but I also knew that she might need someone to speak to sometimes. She might need someone to actually be willing to listen to her. She might not say it, but I could tell that she needed it. At least that’s what I wanted to believe, that there was a part of her that wanted to need a friend to listen to her.
The light inside was muted, soft rays falling through the curtains, casting quiet shadows across the floor. Delilah sat beside Lysandra’s bed, her back to me, one hand resting motionless on the armrest.
She’s been down since we saw her all morning. I saw the light in her eyes, the light that was there yesterday suddenly chose to disappear, and though she did not say the reason, I did not need her to. I saw it in his eyes too, and I could tell that something had happened between her and Ethan, something that the two of them were most likely not yet ready
