Chapter 75. Shadows in the Forest
I couldn’t believe what was happening!
With my mind hazed in panic, I quickly used the backdoor, didn’t mind taking some of my belongings, and just snatched Jeff’s old cloak that was hanging behind the door. His scent was still on the fabric, making my eyes water in grief. My chest was so tight that it was hard to breathe through my nose. The cold breeze of the night was biting on my skin and my throat was aching and swelling.
With quick steps and a racing heart, the noise of the angry men coming to the front of the house became more audible, as did Kendra’s wailing as she continued pretending to be a victim of the crime she had just committed. My teeth gnashed together in anger, and I swore to myself that she would pay for taking Jeff’s life!
But for now, I had to hurry as I dashed straight to the small horse stable where Gram was resting. When I entered the small hut, he greeted me with a loud neigh.
