The first light of dawn crept through the curtains, pale gold spilling across the sheets. Alaria shifted beside me, her hair tangled across the pillow, her breathing soft.

I could still feel her weakness and fatigue. I knew that she was, though I could not understand what it was that she was dealing with. My wolf grew protective over her, and hers was tired, mostly needing to rest. She would never admit this, I knew that, but I knew that I was going to be the one to keep her safe.
