Liam
The morning sun filtered through the windshield as I pulled into the school parking lot. Alaria sat beside me, quiet, focused on the small hand she was holding in hers, Anastasia’s. The little one was chattering about her classroom project, completely oblivious to the storm brewing just beneath the surface.
“Now what is our rule?”
“I be good. I don't let anyone bully me and I don't fight. If anyone does annoy me, I go and speak to the principal. The teacher is going to handle everything and I don't use my hands, I keep them to myself.” Anastasia said, looking at her mother who smiled before kissing her forehead.
“That is my girl. Now, go and have a nice day.” Alaria said, watching as Anastasia rushed towards the school door. Her teacher nodded at Alaria and she smiled, nodding back.
But I wasn't focused on any of that. I had my mind elsewhere.
