Chapter 35. The Heroine
Yasmin leaned on the board of the bed in her bedroom with Carlos as she stared at him, watching as he undressed. He grunted as he pulled his feet out of his shoes and walked to the bed.
He shuttled into the bed and leaned in toward her for a kiss after stifling a yawn. “How is my queen doing?”
She smiled a half smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. He was worried though he tried to hide how he felt from her.
“I am fine. I should be asking you that question, though. You look worse. How was the meeting?”
He shrugged. “Okay. Just how a meeting should be.”
She snorted. She knew he would try to protect her from the truth, but she wasn’t about to give up easily as well. She would be a fool if she didn’t know that the man she loved and got mated to was in pain. She knew that look well. The corners of his lips were lifted at the edges as he smiled, a smile he reserved for those he didn’t like or when he was tired and didn’t want to talk but had to find an app
