Chapter 59. The Search Begins

Avery’s POV

I wiped the sweat from my brow, my gaze sweeping across the remnants of what was once my home. The Golden Ridge Pack was in shambles, the land littered with debris from our fallen structures, the air thick with the scent of ash and blood. But despite the destruction, my mind was set on one thing.

Charles.

I turned to my father, his expression unreadable as he surveyed the damage. For years, he had seen me as weak, as a disgrace to his lineage. But even now, standing among our broken people, I couldn’t forget that there was still one among us missing.

His gaze flickered to me briefly before he turned away. “It doesn’t matter.”

I clenched my fists. What did he mean it didn’t matter? What did he mean by that? Was he back to demeaning Charles? Did he not care about Charles wellbeing because he thought he was just a lowly doctor. “He’s part of this Pack. He matters.”
