Chapter 8. He Is Back

Bella’s POV

“Devon,” I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper.

My heart was pounding in my chest, and I felt like I might faint. What was Devon doing here, after all these years? How had he found me? I tried to keep my thoughts from spiraling out of control, but it was difficult.

And then I remembered: my son was in the next room. I had to make sure he doesn’t step out. I shifted my weight, trying to free my hands, but they were bound too tightly. With a surge of desperation, I bit down hard on the fabric of my shirt, letting out a loud, guttural scream. The sound seemed to echo in the small room, and I hoped it would not reach my son's ears.
