Maeve’s POV
My entire body felt numb. I still couldn’t shake the shock of discovering that Thea was the witch. She—the goddamn witch—had been hunting Draven and me for as long as I could remember. Oh, goddess, how had I never suspected it? I always knew Thea Chrysler was a devil in disguise, but never did it occur to me that she was a witch. A fucking witch.
It meant she’d known all along. She knew about Lucius, about me. She knew my true identity—she knew I was a witch. Of course she did; she’d uncovered it the moment I’d first fought her. “Surprised?” Her voice slithered into my mind, demanding my attention.
I lifted my gaze and met her bright brown eyes, alight with amusement. “Yes,” I admitted. “This is a shock. I never expected you—of all people—to be the witch.” My words only made her smile deepen. “I have to hand it to you, Thea. You played us all masterfully.”
