Chapter 112
“What do you think?” I ask Ronnie, who is next to me peering into the fridge. Nikki has left it full of children’s yogurts, milk, and juice cartons, and the pantry is stocked with boxes of pasta, a cereal box with animal drawings, and a huge bag of fish-shaped crackers.
For adults, though, there isn’t much.
Apparently, I need to run to the supermarket.
It’s Tuesday, and Marcus, Ronnie, and I have been up for a few hours. We watched television curled up on the sofa and had cereal for breakfast. Ronnie doesn’t seem affected by her nightmare from last night.
The same can’t be said of me. I still feel like I’m walking on glass, but I’m determined to forget it, chalking it up to being caught off guard. I haven’t told Marcus, and neither has Stella, who went out sightseeing at his insistence.
“Apple juice,” Ronnie demands, holding out her little hand. I give it to her, help her stick the straw into the hole, and scowl at the fridge.
