Chapter 70. Draw the Line

Madeline’s POV

“Your Highness?” he called me.

“You know what?” I cut him off with a smile. “Please call me by my real name. Madeline.”

He blinked repeatedly. “Oh, I almost forgot that you are not the countess,” he said. “You are Madeline, the mortal assassin in your time.”

I don’t know. His statement slightly offended me, and I just realized one thing. Countess Marissa and Madeline were not the same. We have one body right now, but we are different.

“You told me that I am different in a lot of ways… right?” I asked. “So what does that mean?”

He slowly furrowed his eyebrows as if he was also confused by my question. I stared at him. Another thought flashed behind my mind.

He knows me as Countess Marissa. Not Madeline.

Oh, my…

Did I mess up?

Did I just think of his feelings towards me differently?

Also, I have been warned by Victor and the countess to never fall in love with him. He is going to kill me.
