“Duty must come first,” the countess only said. “Love never wins in a war, Madeline. It only corrupts you, until living does not feel right anymore. It breeds endless defeats, risking your subjects caused by your selfishness.”

The countess has been so genuine to me ever since we met in my dreams. I was the only one who was there and could be able to talk to her. I know her pain and suffering when she shared how she missed her family and the world she used to live in.

“Countess…” I whispered under my breath.
