Chapter 368
It looked like a fresh graveyard of blood and ruin. The air reeked of iron and smoke so thick that it burned his lungs, forcing a fit of coughing that wracked his body. He pressed the heart tighter against his chest, covering his nose with his sleeve as he stumbled forward.
Bodies laid everywhere. On the ground, in the trees, everywhere. His stomach lurched as he recognized some of them. The Ice Fairy Queen and her son, Elliot were sprawled in a broken heap. Leo, his bodyguard, laid against the trunk of a tree, his chest bleeding profusely. He also saw many soldiers that belonged to Ashenmore. Some he knew, some he didn't but it didn't make the shock and pain he felt any less.
Where the fountain had once been, there was now a massive crater which was still smoking, the jagged stones scorched black at its edges. He guessed that it must be the aftermath of the thunderous explosion he’d heard.
