Chapter 50
Dennison’s eyes had gone red because of the weight of grief pressing on him.
I shifted slightly on the couch, the glass of wine untouched in my hand. The room was quiet except for the faint sound of Daisy and Jake’s laughter spilling in from the other side of the suite.
I took a breath and looked at him. “Dennison… you should go. You should visit his grave. Whatever happened, whatever mistakes were made, it’s not too late. I know what regret feels like. I’ve lived with it too.”
His gaze flicked toward me, searching, maybe even suspicious, like he was trying to decide if I understood or if I was just saying the words because they were easy. But the truth was I knew all too well. I have been there.
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “That man earlier… the one who came to the hospital. Is he—” His voice caught, but then he forced the words out. “Is he the father of your child?”
