“Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Grey,” one of the officers greeted, his tone formal but not harsh.
Benjamin squeezed my hand once before letting go and stepping out of the car. I followed, though my legs felt unsteady, like they were not ready to hold me.
The two officers stopped a few feet from us. Their uniforms looked stiff, their faces unreadable, and the afternoon air carried the faint crackle of tension.
“Is there a problem?” Benjamin asked calmly, though I noticed his jaw tighten.
