Chapter 118. The Elixir

I stood still, frozen as Dean and I stared at each other. 

But his eyes were not exactly focused and when they snapped shut again, I knew he was still high on whatever drugs he and Norio had abused last night.

My heart was pounding so much I could almost hear it audibly. Somewhere in the house a dish crashed to the floor with a loud sound as murmurs from the housekeeper penetrated the morning stillness.

I gripped the knife, my body still trembling, and walked back around to my side of the bed.

What had I almost done? Out of rage, I would have ruined the whole plan and put myself in even bigger trouble with Louise.

First, I have to get Dean started immediately on the Elixir, and then find a way to befriend Leonardo somehow. If he knew about the Rosetta he must be one of the few people chosen annually to go there and retrieve information. 

But right now, the most urgent matter was correcting what Dean had just seen.
