Chapter 247. Freedom Day: pt. 2

Frozen grass crunched under my boots, and the temperature was dropping quickly as the evening wore on.

“Warm enough?” Colt leaned in to adjust my neck scarf, “You should have worn the leather jacket.” And even as he spoke, his breath clouded in the air, like he was exhaling cigar smoke.

It was the eve of Christmas, the coldest day so far this winter, and in the past I would have hated it, missing home, the snowless Silicon Valley with perfect temperature all year round.

But now, when there was no assurance that I would see the next winter? 

It felt special, and I was looking forward to taking pictures here before we left. A keepsake of some sort especially if he ever met my brother.
