Chapter 272. I'm Not Mad
Olivia was blanketed in silence, her fingers stiff as claws in mine as we stared at the child who had his back to us, laughing loudly as Axel pushed the hammock like a swing, as far as it could go.
He shrieked when the hammock rose high in the sky, and laughed as it descended.
“Colt?” Olivia’s voice came out trembling.
My hand tightened around hers, turning to find her eyes pinned in the direction of the boy, arrested by the sight, unable to even blink.
Holding her hand even tighter, I took the first step forward.
She remained immobile, and I glanced back to nod in encouragement, before finally, she took the first step.
Axel turned to us then with a smile, still swinging the hammock, likely to keep the child’s attention away from our approach.
