The room was glass and steel—quiet, clinical, and brimming with power. Rows of server towers glowed faintly along the walls, humming like a distant heartbeat. Harper stood at the center, tablet in hand, face lit by the large overhead display. Behind the glass, investors and board members watched like silent judges seated in a theater box.
She took a breath, slow and steady. Her reflection hovered in the polished glass—a dozen versions of herself, all carrying the weight of this moment.
Today was the live demo. Not a pitch. Not a promise. Proof.
“This is a live test of our compliance system,” she announced, voice smooth and composed. “You’ll see everything unfold in real time. No edits. No retakes.”
Knox stood at the edge of the room, arms crossed, sharp in his suit but deliberately out of the spotlight. He didn’t need to speak—his presence was steadying, deliberate. Their entire relationship had been built on tension and trust. Today tested both.
