I mean, yes, I am a giant compared to her, but… did I really look that scary?
“I promise, next time I’ll be mentally ready. I’m sorry,” she murmured again.
“Hey,” I said, my voice rough but gentler now.
I stepped closer until I stood right before her. “I’m the one who’s sorry for going off like that.”
I reached out, brushing a stray tear from her cheek with my thumb. “Don’t you dare apologize. Don’t ever apologize for how you feel.”
I pulled her into my arms, holding her close and letting her head rest against my chest. “Take your time. We have a lifetime, anyway. My anger wasn’t about not having sex—it was about the fact that you thought I’d only want you for it. That’s what hurt.”
“I’m sorry… I keep letting my fears get to me,” she sobbed.
I kissed her forehead gently. “It’s just a matter of time. I’ll erase those fears—every single one of them. I give you my word. But I need you to help me do it.” I lifted her face in my palm.
