CHARLOTTE
It was my mother.
She was dressed in a stunning, sequined silver dress that caught the light with every step. And holding each one of her hands were the twins—my younger sisters, Zoey and Chloe.
Zoey was dressed in her usual chic black, but Chloe… Chloe was wrapped in a sunflower-yellow robe with a delicate crown of flowers resting on her head.
“Babe, I have to go,” I whispered into the phone, my eyes locked on the approaching trio.

But my nerves got the best of me, and I hung up before he could finish.
Instant regret hit me. Great. Now I’d made him worry again.
I slipped the phone back into my bag and waited, heart pounding.
