Chapter 15. You Don’t Understand
CHARLOTTE
I pushed my fork around the edge of the plate, pretending to be full.
Leo had finished his plate a while ago and was sipping water slowly, his eyes flicking toward me every now and then.
“You done with eating?” he asked softly.
I nodded, a little too quickly. “Yeah. I’m good.”
He tilted his head, gaze drifting to the little silver case sitting carelessly beside my napkin.
“You took something before dinner,” he said. “That wasn’t… vitamins, was it?”
I glanced at the case. “…It’s an appetite suppressant.”
His eyes held mine longer than I could stand. He didn’t say anything—just… looked at me, like he was trying to read something between the words I hadn’t said yet.
“Why?”
That one word hit harder than it should have.
Why?
Why?!
Is that even a question? Isn’t it obvious?
I gave a shaky laugh.
“Because… without it I might eat more and gain more. I gain weight in a flash, but losing it fee
