Chapter 18. Believe a Lie
CHARLOTTE
The knock came again.
I quickly looked at the mirror to make sure all the traces of tears were dried up.
“Calm down, Charlotte. You shouldn’t panic, that will come off awkward. But why is he here?” I muttered to myself, curious.
What if he wants to spend the night together?
No way!
I can’t look him in the eyes after what happened! Also, we are not dating. He has enough room in this mansion to sleep in—why here?
My insecurities whispered.
Charlotte, quit thinking you are that girl! The only man who ever dated you. did it out of pity. The rest who said, “Hello, beautiful,” did it to use you as bait for your sisters.
I drew a deep breath and waved it off.
I am older now. Those romantic feelings and cravings to be loved aren’t something to hope for. True love is unrealistic anyway. All I have to do is work hard to be a successful actress and make enough money for a surgery.
