Chapter 16. Another Side of Me
LEO
I was on the couch, half-scrolling through old texts I wasn’t really reading.
My mind went back to the what could’ve happened If I had told her how I felt back then at the dining.
Will she take me seriously?
We just met yesterday.
I sighed, then I heard…
“Leo… ple…please don’t turn around yet. I had a dress on for the acting practice, not really my style. Just indoors. Promise me you won’t laugh at me.”
I blinked, caught off guard.
That was Charlotte.
Her voice sounded nervous, a little breathless, and had that tremble—the kind you only hear when someone’s about to walk off a cliff and hopes you’ll catch them.
I quickly put my phone down, my heartbeat rising.
Then I replied. “I promise I won’t laugh at you.”
I went ahead and turned off the big screen to give her my full attention. My throat felt dry all of a sudden. I swallowed.
She was silent.
I had to assure her again. “I promise. Trust me.”
